'The Magnificent Warriors' (Story Code '50912') by Glen A. Larson

When a Cylon attack destroys most of the Colonial fleet's food supply, the last surviving members of humanity face a huge problem. An exchange can be made with the farmers of the rural planet of Seremity; however, in return for their grain, the farmers want some important machinery from the fleet – machinery owned by Siress Belloby, an old flame of Commander Adama. But while Adama attempts to convince Belloby to donate the equipment, the machinery is stolen by the unscrupulous farmers, who then trick Starbuck into accepting the job of town sheriff. The previous sheriffs have all been killed by a gang of pig-like marauders – and it looks like Starbuck will be their next victim…
