Zukan is able to contribute the equipment needed to produce the antitoxin that can counter the effects of the Federation s pacifying drug Pylene 50, telling Avon that they are awaiting raw materials for the process. However, unknown to him, his daughter Zeeona has arrived on Xenon base; when he hears that she and Tarrant have begun a romance, he asks Avon to return her to Betafarl when he returns to collect the raw materials. However, when they leave in Scorpio, Soolin teleports Zeeona back to Tarrant on Xenon base. Believing his daughter to be safe, Zukan betrays the alliance and sets explosives on the base, and then rendezvous with Servalan. She promises to grant him control of the allies, but then plants a bomb aboard his ship. Avon and Soolin arrive on Betafarl, but instead of the shipment, they find Federation troops. They manage to escape, but are then contacted by the others: an explosion has sealed Xenon base, and a deadly radioactive virus has been unleashed. After Zukan is badly injured when the bomb on his ship explodes; he contacts Avon and promises to tell him how to beat the virus, provided that Avon rescues him first. Avon reasons that rescuing Zukan will mean that the crew will be dead by the time he reaches them, and refuses. Zukan s ship explodes. Avon realises that the virus is being spread by the ventilation system, and he instructs Tarrant to reverse the flow to isolate it. Zeeona then volunteers to use the equipment in the contaminated area as a neutralising filter; however, she is unable to work in her protective gloves; she removes them and completes the work, but at the cost of her own life when the virus kills her.

Paul Darrow (Avon), Michael Keating (Vila), Josette Simon (Dayna), Steven Pacey (Tarrant), Glynis Barber (Soolin), Peter Tuddenham (Orac / Slave), Jacqueline Pearce (Servalan), Roy Boyd (Zukan), Bobbie Brown (Zeeona), Dean Harris (Finn), Simon Merrick (Boorva), Rick James (Chalsa), Charles Augins (Lod), Brian Spink (Mida)

Directed by Vicktors Ritelis
Produced by David Maloney

TX:
14th December 1981 @ 7.20 pm - 8.10 pm

Notes:
*Featuring Kerr Avon, Vila Restal, Dayna Mellanby, Del Tarrant, Soolin, Orac and Slave
